Diarrhea in Adults
Diarrhea in adults is an uncomfortable frequent, fluid and excessive bowel movement. One of the body's best methods of rapidly throwing off toxins. Characterized by frequent and loose, watery stools. Symptoms that may accompany diarrhea include vomiting, cramping, fever, dehydration, fatigue and abdominal pain.
Common causes of diarrhea in adults are poor food absorption and the lack of fiber in the diet, also enzymes, and chronic vitamin A deficiency, intestinal parasites, food poisoning, reaction to rancid or unripe foods, food allergies, and reaction to chemicals in foods. Reaction to parasite infected water and/or food in foreign countries, too many antibiotics or a reaction to other drugs. Bacterial, viral and other infections, cancer, caffeine, inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or Chrohn's disease, foods the body cannot tolerate, and emotional stress.
Acute diarrhea accompanied by fever and mucus or blood in the stool can be a sign of infection or the presence of parasites. Many medications may cause diarrhea. Some of the most common are antacids containing magnesium, laxatives, digitalis, diuretics, and a number of antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, cholesterol lowering agents, thyroid hormone and colchicine.
Symptoms of diarrhea are increased frequency of defecation, loose, liquid stools, urgency to go, incontinence, bloating, gas and rectal pain. Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, presence of blood or flecks of mucus in the stool, loss of appetite and weight loss.
